Choosing and comparing the right web hosting for your needs is a big decision to make when you don't have a clue which host to choose from as there are literally hundreds out there all with great reviews. But a lot of the reviews out there are written by the the hosting company themselves trying to make themselves sound good and hence luring unsuspecting first time web newbies to sign up for their service. I've had my fair share of bad experiences with so called "good hosts" but problems arise left right and center, including insufficient support for the website I want to build on their services, bad customer services where reps are unwilling to help you at all leaving you stuck with a host that you can't use, poor uptime where you constantly find that your website is down because the hosting provider has poor technology, slow servers meaning your website takes an age to load. The list is endless.

I took the time to compare a list of the best web hosting services out on the market based on a variety of measures such as pricing, reliability, service, customer help, uptime but most of all, through my experience with them. Because I have set up so many websites in my time, I've had the opportunity to test out many hosting services so instead of reading all the biased reviews out on the web, check out my recommendations as above in the comparison report.

Pricing

Comparing price is of course a major factor for web newbies building their first website whether it's just a simple blog or starting up a small business website. We all want to keep the costs down wherever we can. But choosing the cheapest web host to put your website on could spell disaster. There are many that claim to be brilliant at everything and you only find out how bad they are when you have signed up a 3 year plan with them. This is something that you really don't want to do. Usually the price you pay will reflect the service you're getting but of course there are some genuinely good web hosting offers which I have added in my comparison report for you to make your own mind up on.

Reliability

The last thing you would want is to spend a lot of time and money on a website but only to choose a bad host that has really bad uptime. What good is your website when it's not even live on the internet? My comparison report shows which hosts I've had little or no downtime experienced (marked with a thumbs up) and some hosts where I've experienced some downtime denoted with a red thumbs down. it has to be noted though that almost all hosting providers have several if not hundreds of servers and each server will perform differently based on a variety of factors including how many other websites is being shared on the same server. Needless to say, the more sites hosted on the same server, the less resources there are allocated to your site.

Service

When comparing web hosting, I took into account what services are on offer for that particular host. As mentioned above, I will be kicking myself if I take all the time to choose a web host and then at the end, find out that it can't support my website. All the hosts compared in my report have sufficient support for anything that you'll likely need so relax and choose one in the table that you like the look of.

Customer Service

When you have done your comparison of web hosting and decided to sign up with one, during your time with them, you will find that at some points you will need to contact their customer service for some help. I place this high on my priority list when comparing hosts as good customer service will make your life a lot easier and save you a lot of headache. Check whether they have phone support, email support and what I personally find most useful is online chat support. I use this feature all the time and usually, I can get the problem fixed instantly. But of course, when you do your comparison, you have to take into account of the person you're speaking to on the other end. If they're having a bad day, you won;t get a good customer service experience even though they are in the report as good. Highly depends on the technical help representative that your query gets allocated to.

Another reason why you would want 24 hour online live support with a web hosting company is that most of the big and cheap hosts are located in America. So if you're not in that country and you need their help, considering the time difference and international call costs, online chat support is a cost and time saver.

Uptime

Uptime is of course very important which measures the percentage of time your website is fully accessible on the internet. There are many hosting companies out there that have claim to have 99.9% uptime but are down almost every other day. So take it from me, don't trust the statement 99.9% uptime. You can see in my web hosting comparison table, all hosts have a green thumbs up on uptime because otherwise, I wouldn't have chosen them out of the hundreds and recommend them here.

My personal choice

If you don't know how to choose and compare the best web hosting, I would advise you to go for the big hosting companies that have a proven track record in good service and a well known household name in hosting websites such as HostPapa, BlueHost or HostMonster. Personally I would go for HostPapa if you don't know which one to choose out of the many. You can't go wrong with them.
